Key Ingredients

Ceramides

Ceramides are an essential part of the skins natural protective barrier which helps keep pollution and impurities out whilst keeping moisture in and preventing water loss. They make up 50% of the lipids in the stratum corneum which is the outermost layer of the skin epidermis and work by filling the gaps between skin cells.

Hope’s Relief uses 3 different ceramides – each with unique functions in maintaining skin health and hydration

• Ceramide 1: Binds cells together

• Ceramide 2: Help capture and bind water to skin cells

• Ceramide 3: May reduce dryness, benefiting dry skin types

Oat complex

Hope’s Relief triple oat complex interacts with the skin cells to provide hydration, soothing relief, and barrier repair, whilst cleansing.

• Gentle cleansing action - removes impurities without disrupting the natural lipid barrier.

• Interacts with skin cells - immediate skin repair even after the product is rinsed off.

• Anti-inflammatory - reduces irritation from the washing process.

Unique Triple Oat complex with 3 types of Oats

1. Colloidal Oatmeal: Soothes, hydrates, repairs and strengthens the skin barrier.

2. Oat Extracts: Provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits to reduce irritation.

3. Oat Oils: Deliver deep moisturization and help restore skin's lipid balance.

By interacting with skin cells in these ways, our triple oat complex not only soothes and protects eczema-prone skin but also supports long-term barrier health and resilience.

Many body washes strip the skin of natural ceramides, worsening dryness.

Oats contain natural saponins, which gently cleanse without disrupting the lipid barrier.

This leaves a protective layer, ensuring ceramides keep working post-wash.

Further Information

Clinically proven key ingredients

Studies have shown that using colloidal oatmeal in cleansers significantly reduces itching and dryness in eczema patients. Research shows oatmeal based wash improved skin hydration and strengthened the skin barrier better than traditional soap based cleansers (Nebus et al 2012). In addition oat based cleansers keep skin hydration elevated for up to 24 hours post wash (Draelos et al 2018) and significant itch relief was found after a week of regular use (Reynerston et al 2015). Colloidal oatmeal also helps reduce eczema flare ups and improve the skin barrier function.

In studies comparing cleansers with ceramides vs a regular soap based cleanser, users found itching and eczema related irritation were greatly reduced with regular use and skin hydration was significantly improved (Loden et al 2012, Kircik et al 2020)

Why do ceramide levels drop?

Skin Conditions

Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): Individuals with eczema often have lower natural ceramide levels, leading to impaired barrier function.

Psoriasis: This condition also disrupts the lipid balance in the skin, contributing to dryness and inflammation.

Over-Cleansing or Harsh Products

Soaps and Cleansers: Products with harsh detergents or high pH can strip the skin of its natural lipids, including ceramides.

Excessive Exfoliation: Overuse of scrubs or chemical exfoliants can remove the outer protective layers of the skin, reducing ceramide levels.

Aging

Natural Decline: Ceramide production decreases significantly as we age, particularly after the age of 30.

Environmental Factors

Low humidity, cold temperatures, and windy conditions can strip moisture and ceramides from the skin.

Applying ceramides directly to skin means they can integrate into the skin’s natural lipid structure, replenishing depleted ceramides, strengthening the barrier, and promoting hydration and repair. This makes ceramide-rich products highly effective for restoring and maintaining healthy, resilient skin.
